What is a Hostel?
The Hostel is one of the few remaining affordable lodging options in Jackson Hole, and the most affordable in Teton Village. As an older building and a hostel, some items differ from a traditional hotel.
While our private rooms are smaller and do not offer televisions or phones, they are otherwise like hotel rooms – they are private, with private bathrooms and daily housekeeping. For the more cost-conscious traveler, we offer a few shared bunk rooms with four bunks per room, also with a private bathroom and daily housekeeping.
We do not have an elevator or air-conditioning (not unusual in the mountains), though we do offer box fans for the occasional hotter day. While the Hostel can be noisier than newer hotels, extra soundproofing was installed in 2014. There isn’t a commercial guest kitchen, though guests can take advantage of our refrigerators & a freezer, electric hot plates, pots & pans, dishes, a microwave, and an outdoor BBQ for basic cooking. Our energy efficient CFL bulbs take a few seconds to get to full brightness, and some may find the rooms dark until the bulbs are fully warmed up.
These differences from a typical chain hotel are balanced against the Hostel’s premier location and exceptional value, enhanced yearly by upgrades, including:
- Serta mattresses
- Kohler showers
- Granite sink counters
- Commercial wifi routers throughout the building with a fiber optic feed
- Ice machine
- JH Roasters organic coffee
- New carpeting
- New televisions in the common room.

For a fraction of the cost of neighboring hotels, you can stay at “arguably the best location in Teton Village” (Skiing Magazine), and “walk to the Mangy Moose where nobody will be able to tell you apart from those staying at the Four Seasons just up the slope from the Hostel” (Frommers).
